May 2011: Cool news! A team of Austin-based filmmakers (well, mostly Austin based) are ganging up to do a remake of Richard Linklater's Slacker -- it'll be Slacker . . . just 20 years later. Here's an article from Slackerwood that discusses the project!
The remake will be showcasing all new actors and the ever-evolving face of Austin (in all its glorious weirdness). I will be one of about 20 directors on this project -- each of us directing one segment. It should be fun and it's for a GREAT cause -- all proceeds will go to fund the Texas Filmmakers Prodution Fund (TFPF), which is one of THE VERY FEW places that still gives grant money to support film artists that reside in Texas. With a small donation, you can help fund the TFPF and also get free tickets to go watch the world premiere of the new Slacker remake (Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and even Kayne West will be in attendance). The Overbrook Brothers -- Now available at SundanceNow Go see "The Good Neighbor" at SXSW. My friend Jake Vaughn directed it (I wrote it). It's very funny and it stars the always affable Chris Doubek. Click here for the schedule (look on the right hand side of the screen)!
The Good Neighbor Also, be sure to check out "Kevin". It's a documentary about a great Austin musician, Kevin Gant, and it's directed by my good friend Jay Duplass. Should have a completed version of the film sometime in 2011 (we're taking a leisurely, zen-like approach with our post-production schedule). May 2010 Screen Door Films will be hosting a free screening of The Overbrook Brothers in Austin on Wednesday, June 16th at 7:00 p.m. at U.T.. Momma's Boy will be playing on Channel 4 in Ireland on 5/24 at 3:45 a.m..So, if you're up super late on Sunday night (technically, early Monday morning), and you're in Ireland . . . check out Momma's Boy! April 2010 LOVEolution will be playing on April 14th in Jena, Germany (Wednesday) as part of the Cellu l'art Open Air festival. So, all you Oh My God fans in Germany -- come check out the prequel!!!
